Laura Klitgaard is the Chairperson of the Danish Society of Engineers (IDA), Denmark’s largest professional association for STEM professionals, representing over 166,000 members as of 2024
A civil engineer by training, Laura holds degrees in both architecture and construction management. Before assuming the presidency, she served as a client advisor at Cowi A/S and in Mariagerfjord Municipality, bringing experience from both the private and public sectors. Laura has been actively involved in IDA since her student days, holding various leadership roles, including membership in the Executive Committee since 2016 and chairing IDA's expert committee for Climate and Future Transport.
Elected as President in May 2022, Laura focuses on addressing Denmark's shortage of highly educated professionals in engineering, IT, and natural sciences. She advocates for flexible work environments and emphasizes the importance of STEM education in driving the green transition and digitalization of public services. In her leadership, Laura champions ethical technology development and the integration of technical expertise into policymaking, ensuring that Denmark remains at the forefront of innovation and sustainability.
