Andrej Plenković
Prime Minister of CroatiaAndrej Plenković, born on April 8, 1970, in Zagreb, Croatia, is a prominent Croatian politician, diplomat, and lawyer. He has been serving as the Prime Minister of Croatia since October 19, 2016, and is the leader of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).
Plenković completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, earning a Master of International Law degree. He commenced his diplomatic career in 1994 at the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he held various significant positions, including Deputy Ambassador to the European Union and Deputy Ambassador to France.
In 2011, Plenković was elected as a Member of the Croatian Parliament. Subsequently, he served as an observer in the European Parliament and, following Croatia's accession to the EU, as a Member of the European Parliament. During his tenure, he was the ViceChair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Chair of the Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee.
As Prime Minister, Plenković has overseen Croatia's economic recovery and further integration into the European Union. Under his leadership, Croatia held the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from January to June 2020. Fluent in English, French, and Italian, and conversant in German, Plenković is married and a father of three children.
