Múte Bourup Egede is the former Prime Minister and currently deputy Prime Minister and serves as Minister of Finances and Taxes (Naalakkersuisoq for Finanser og Skatter), overseeing Greenland’s financial and taxation policy. A member of the Inuit Ataqatigiit party, he has been a leading voice for sustainable development, economic equity, and increased autonomy within the Kingdom of Denmark. Born in 1987 in Greenland, Egede has built his political career from the grassroots up. He participated in the Greenland Youth Parliament in 2007 and later led the youth wing of Inuit Ataqatigiit. Elected to the Inatsisartut (Greenland’s parliament) in 2015, he has held several cabinet positions, including Minister for Mineral Resources and Acting Minister for Infrastructure and Housing. Since 2021, he has served as Greenland’s head of government, re-elected in 2025 to continue leading a progressive and climate-conscious agenda.

Egede’s leadership spans across domestic and international policy, including roles on foreign affairs, economic reform, and environmental policy. He also plays a key role in representing Greenland on the global stage, including in regional cooperation forums like the West Nordic Council. He also received “The Wilson Award for Leadership Through Alliances” in 2022 from The Wilson Center

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Culture and Social History from Ilisimatusarfik (University of Greenland) and speaks Greenlandic, Danish, and English.
