Peter Søndergaard is EED's Director of Programmes overseeing EED’s programmatic work in more than 30 countries. He has been working in democracy support for the past more than 25 years. Prior to joining EED in 2013, he headed the Brussels office of the Association of Local Democracy Agencies supporting a programme on local democracy development in the European Neighbourhood.
Previously, he was the Country Director of the International Republican Institute in Kyrgyzstan. In this capacity, he designed and conducted trainings on election observation, constitutional and electoral system reform, strategic planning and political party organisational development.
Earlier, he also worked with OSCE in Bosnia, as International Officer of the National Union of Danish Students and headed the European Students’ Union.
Peter holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Aarhus, where he specialised in democratisation processes and international donor support to civil society.
