Even with recent setbacks, authoritarianism is advancing globally, undermining the rule of law, amplifying divisive narratives, and scapegoating vulnerable communities. This panel will focus on understanding authoritarianism today and examining the systems that continue to enable and sustain strongman rule. The conversation will examine how contemporary authoritarian regimes endure, adapt, and legitimize themselves and how democratic responses can effectively counter them.
